CHEM 215L - Organic Chemistry Laboratory I 1 Credit(s)
Liberal Arts This is a two-semester laboratory course (CHEM 215L-CHEM 216L) designed to accompany the year-long organic chemistry lecture course (CHEM 211L - CHEM 212L ), and the first semester (CHEM 215L) is also
designed to accompany the one-semester organic chemistry lecture course (CHEM 201L ). Students will learn a variety of important organic chemistry laboratory techniques in the context of purification and purity
assessment, and these techniques are integrated into future labs of increasing complexity. Students will carry out selected reactions studied in lecture, with an emphasis on the purification and characterization of products using various techniques, including spectroscopic methods. Scientific writing is emphasized throughout. One three-hour laboratory per week.
