Liberal Arts This course is a survey of modern continental European and global dramatic literature, focused on the development of realism in the nineteenth century and the numerous stylistic revolts generated thereafter. Non-realistic and historical avant-garde styles covered may include Expressionism, Surrealism, Dada, Absurdism, Epic Theatre, Grand Guignol, and Theatre of Cruelty. Playwrights studied may include Ibsen, Chekhov, Strindberg, Genet, Havel, Beckett, Ionesco, Arrabal, and Brecht. (Fulfills Ethnic/Global requirement for English Literature majors.)
