ENSC 365L - Earth Systems Science

3 Credit(s)

Liberal Arts
Same as ecology, earth system science aims to study the interrelationships between both biotic organisms and abiotic components of environments. However, there is an emphasis in Earth system science on physically-based calculations to understand these interrelationships, as opposed to the statistically-based approaches common to ecology. Content topics include biogeochemical and water cycling, organism responses to physical and chemical conditions, population growth and regulation, intra- and interspecific competition, herbivory, predation, parasitism, mutualism, community structure, ecosystem productivity, sediment movement, and critical zone science. Three hours of lecture and three hours of fieldwork/lab per week. Juniors and seniors only.

Offered When: Every fall.
Prerequisite(s): BIOL 130L , BIOL 131L , CHEM 111L  and CHEM 115L  or CHEM 101L  and CHEM 102L .
