Triple listed as POSC 217L  and REST 217L  This course examines the experiences of Catholics in North America from their early encounters with indigenous people up to the 21st century. Utilizing a variety of primary and secondary sources, we will pay particular attention to how American political and social concerns shaped the lives of Catholics and the people they encountered, how Catholics imprinted their own religious culture and values on American society, and what variations exist in Catholic expression based on time and place.
