GAME 214L - Game Design

This course introduces students to the game design process, including devising game mechanics, rules, goals, and
design principles. The course also emphasizes the analysis, interpretation, and impact of games, and how this relates
to the design process. Students will individually and collaboratively design. Students will be creating digital and nondigital games; such as pen and paper, card, board, interactive fiction, augmented reality, alternate reality, escape room, live-action role-playing, outdoor, game jam, and “big” games. This course is hands on and will involve creating
at least three different games, as well as extensive practice of playtesting and prototyping techniques. No
programming experience is necessary.
