ART 115L - Secrets of the Metropolitan Museum of Art

3 Credit(s)

Liberal Arts
This online course is devoted to an in-depth exploration of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. It will introduce the students not only to the major artworks of the Met’s collection but also to its history, organization, management and its importance as a living cultural institution. The Metropolitan Museum of Art collections are divided into Curatorial Departments. Students are encouraged to take full advantage of the Met’s remarkable website which includes high quality images of artworks, essays written by curators (with full bibliography and live links to scholarly articles) and videos of lectures given by scholars on various aspects of the collection. Every week, we will focus on a specific theme within a given Curatorial Department. For each week of the course, there will be a “Lesson Module” that will map out the work to be accomplished for that week. No prerequisite
