Non Liberal Arts This course explores the wide range of security issues facing those who use and administer computer networks. Topics covered include basic cryptographic mechanisms, Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) for distributed security, security protocols, and current government initiatives impacting Internet security. Also covered are features of networks that support and enhance the PKI, such as virtual private networks, the secure sockets layer mechanism embedded in all browsers, and directory services. Included as well is the study of methods that have been used by hackers to break into computer systems.
