This course introduces students to critiques of the mainstream American news media and to a range of theories of the press and its role in society. Students will explore alternative news media - comparing their history, financing, political orientations, and news products to those of mainstream media. Students will be invited to broaden their own sources of information and to develop their own approaches to critical analysis of news reports.
