EDUC324N - STEM II for Elementary Teaching: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics for General and Special Education

The purpose of this course is to develop the candidate’s competency to teach science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to elementary school children, 1-6, including those children with cognitive and behavioral deficits that require a modified educational program. Manipulative laboratory activities and lectures are used to study content, methods, and materials. Methods of instruction emphasize problem solving and inquiry approaches, encourage content integration, and foster collaboration and active engagement. Candidates plan, implement, and assess STEM lessons in appropriate classroom settings through the required fieldwork. Students must enroll in STEM I and STEM II concurrently. The emphasis in STEM II is content integration in conjunction with science and engineering instruction. 10 hours of fieldwork is required.
