Liberal Arts Representative works of the 19th and 20th centuries. Writers such as Poe, Hawthorne, and Melville will be examined for their contribution to the establishment of the genre, while succeeding writers such as Jewett, Wharton, Hemingway, Salinger, Cheever, and Walker will be studied for ways in which the form has developed during the two centuries.
