3 Credit(s)

Liberal Arts
This writing workshop will be focused on the theme of travel. While students enrolled in the course do not need to have traveled far, they will have consider the difference between “home” and “away,” and between “here” and “there.” Part of our excitement or awe, When we travel, comes from our recognition of anomalies or what is outside of our ordinary lives. Students will learn to link their travel observations with their own lives and with narratives from home. Additionally, they will learn to use the writings of other authors such as Pico Iyer, Joan Didion, and Mary Gordon, to enhance their writing style, technique, form, and understanding. Student will increase their critical thinking and writing through close reading, writing exercises, revision, discussion, and formal writing.

Prerequisite(s): ENG 222L  or ENG 280L  or permission of instructor
