FASH 126N - Creative Process

This introductory course acquaints students with the creative process in fashion design. It familiarizes them with professional means of presentations, materials, tools and techniques required for the successful construction and delivery of ideas, inspirations, mood and concept boards for the presentation process required in the contemporary fashion industry. Students are introduced to fundamental design concepts: focus, color, line, space and movement, light and texture, perspective and illusion, informing the goal of a dynamic, communicative and inspiring composition. Through various forms of weekly presentations and critiques, the students explore various methodologies of creative research by learning and practicing fashion portfolio developments. Additionally, Creative Process is designed to develop effective presentational skills, critical thinking and astute listening as they pertain to the development of creative fashion ideas. To support the creative process, skill areas stressed are developing and organizing speech content, effective delivery of presentations, critical thinking, active listening, and peer critiques. Content is presented and practiced in the context of different fashion topics and at times to various audiences. The theories of public communication are incorporated with the active learning of the fashion creative process. FD Majors only.
