Non Liberal Arts This is the first course in a two course sequence that combines didactic, psychomotor lab and clinical observation in a progressive manner to prepare students to provide emergency care to patients in the pre-hospital setting based on the scope of practice defined by the New York State Department of Health and U.S. Department of Transportation Emergency Medical Technician - Basic (EMT-B) curriculum. Emphasis will be placed on the recognition and treatment of life threatening emergencies. Topics to include: Well Being for the EMT-B, Medical-Legal Issues, Airway Management, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, Patient Assessment, Medical Emergencies, Trauma, Infants and Children and Operations. Students who successfully complete this two course sequence (with HLTH 206N ) will be eligible to take the New York State Department of Health EMT-B Certification exam.
