This is the first course in a two course sequence that combines didactic, psychomotor lab and clinical observation in a progressive manner to prepare students to provide emergency care to patients in the pre-hospital setting based on the scope of practice defined by the New York State Department of Health and U.S. Department of Transportation Emergency Medical Technician - Basic (EMT-B) curriculum. Emphasis will be placed on the recognition and treatment of life threatening emergencies. Topics to include: Well Being for the EMT-B, Medical-Legal Issues, Airway Management, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, Patient Assessment, Medical Emergencies, Trauma, Infants and Children and Operations. Students who successfully complete this two course sequence (with HLTH 206N) will be eligible to take the New York State Department of Health EMT-B Certification exam.
