Liberal Arts This course introduces students to the major early and contemporary film theories and theorists, and to the practice of academic research in film studies. Students will learn to identify, evaluate, and apply research findings in the development of an original research project. Critical methodologies will include criticism from sociological, socioeconomic, psychological, and semiotic perspectives. Topics and theories covered may include: the language of film; realism and formalism; film acting, costume, and sound; film genre; class, race, and ethnicity; feminism; psychoanalytic theory; queer theory; ecocriticism; and theories of spectatorship.
Offered When: Fall and spring. Prerequisite(s): MDIA 101L , MDIA 120L , sophomore standing.
