Liberal Arts Examines the theory and practice of a major 20th-century art movement from its origins in Dada and surrealism to more recent abstract expressionist, minimalist, and structuralist works. The course focuses on how experimental film and videos differ in form, technique, and content from the more traditional narrative and documentary movements. The course examines the works of Marcel Duchamp, Luis Buñuel, Man Ray, Maya Deren, Kenneth Anger, James Broughton, the Whitney Brothers, Stan Brakhage, Michael Snow, and others.
