This course focuses on how our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are influenced by the real or imagined presence of others within the context of modern living. Topics that will be discussed include how technology (e.g., smart phones and social media) has altered the connections we have with others, as well as broader social changes in relation to consumerism and tribalism. Various social psychological theories and research methods will be discussed and incorporated into the class as a means to better understand how certain aspects of modern living can influence us in both positive and negative ways.
