Liberal Arts This course is designed to heighten the student’s knowledge, awareness, and tolerance of differences among people, as well as raise consciousness and sensitivity to the kinds of problems in which these differences result. Ethnic minorities, undervalued groups, and protected classes will be studied in the context of language, poverty, powerlessness, institutional racism, sexism, and ageism. Frameworks for social-work practice will focus on how social workers can be equipped to improve the status of minorities and undervalued groups. Course content is enriched by a concurrent field education experience.
