This course explores the various types of trauma that individuals, children, families, groups, organizations, and communities may be exposed to due to natural disasters, community violence, trauma related to sexual exploitation, combat, and traumatic grief. Students will examine evidence-based practices for treating trauma, ethical and effective treatment modalities, the neuroscience of trauma, and the short-and long-term impact on those exposed to traumatic events. No prerequisite, students are encouraged to complete SOC 101L and SOCW 230L.
