ART 213N - Photography II: Film & Experimental Processes 3 Credit(s)
Non Liberal Arts This course is a continuation of Photography I: Digital and introduces students to the fundamentals of analog film photography. Students will learn to photograph using the manual controls of a 35mm SLR film camera, gaining a deeper understanding of exposure and the nuances of working with light. They will develop their own film and, building on their analog work, digitize film negatives to explore a digital workflow, including photo editing, retouching using Adobe software, and fine art printing. The course ventures into historical printing processes, in which students create digital negatives and transform them into distinctive works contact printed on artist-grade papers through cyanotype and other alternative processes. Through hands-on experimentation with UV light and emphasis on creative exploration, students discover unique ways to blend digital and traditional methods within contemporary photographic practice.
Requirements: Access to a manual SLR 35mm film camera; An Adobe Creative Cloud subscription
