MEDT464N - Advanced Clinical Microscopy and Parasitology

This is a course in the study of body fluids and human parasites. The first weeks will be an advanced study of body fluids. It includes the physiology and pathophysiology of the fluids and the microscopic and biochemical changes which occur as a result of disease. Classroom instruction in diagnostic procedures will be used to evaluate all types of body fluids. The course will then move on to a study of the biology of human parasites. Topics covered will include parasite diversity, life cycles, host defense mechanisms, parasite evasion, diagnosis, treatment, and control. The laboratory component will examine the parasites from slide preparations.

Prerequisite(s): MEDT 345N BIOL 130L BIOL 131L CHEM 111L CHEM 112L CHEM 115L CHEM 116L  or it equivlent
