EDUC112N - The Art of Teaching

This course focuses on developing teacher candidates’ pedagogical and student engagement skills by exploring elements of improvisational theater. Course goals include developing pedagogical knowledge, assessing student engagement, and understanding the role of side-coaching as a teaching tool. Candidates will gain proficiency reacting to various classroom situations that scaffold learning and differentiate instruction. Constructivist, collaborative, inquiry-based, integrative, and reflective pedagogical approaches will be utilized. Topics include: animation of voice and body, humor, and role-playing. Through extensive guided practice, teacher candidates will be prepared to motivate and engage students across grades and content areas.
