This course explores traditional and experimental approaches to portrait photography, challenging conventional definitions while examining evolving concepts of identity and representation. Students will develop technical proficiency with lighting equipment, camera controls, and post-processing while learning to capture authentic moments. Through studying historical and contemporary approaches, students will build a critical framework for understanding how portraiture transforms in response to cultural and technological shifts. Moving beyond classical portraiture, the course encourages experimentation through alternative techniques, multimedia approaches, and conceptual exploration, with special attention to the photographer-subject relationship and ethics.
