ENSC420L - Environmental Planning

Dual Listed as POSC 420L . This course covers how environmental values have changed, threats to the environment, and the range of responses intended to protect and improve environmental quality. The course includes basic constitutional principles and socioeconomic impacts that affect planning; citizen participation; environmental impact statements; land-use and development practices such as Smart Growth and New Urbanism and applies these concepts to contemporary environmental issues in Poughkeepsie and the Hudson Valley. The class is highly participatory and students are encouraged to express their own perspective on the environment and environmental issues in their hometown and other places that they love. (Does not fulfill Core/LS Natural Science requirement.)

Prerequisite(s): ENSC 101L , POSC 110L , ENSC 202L /POSC 202L  and POSC 240L  or permission of the instructor
